A study carried out by the Queensland University of Technology, has analysed 20 million search sessions. They found that business and e-commerce are searched more often than pornography and sex, in both Australia and the United States.
This shows that The Internet has become a legitimate place for profitable business. You only have to look at the number of Internet companies that are household names on a global scale; Google, EBay, Amazon and YouTube to name just a few. Just because you build a website, doesn't mean you will become an instant millionaire. Like any other business, you need to be filling a gap in the market. You need to be doing something that no one else is, or at the very least doing something a lot better. It also has to be something that people want. While the benefits of an online presence is clear, for some businesses, it just doesn't make sense to have a website.
The biggest problem people will face is technology moves at such a rapid pace. You really need to have someone in your corner who knows web technology; Right Software can help you there.
Big business now has the Internet worked out, but small business still has a lot to gain from the web. An issue many small businesses fail to address is, a website shouldn't be a static document. Your website is not set and forget like a flyer. If your website never changes, why would people come back? Why is it so important to get people back to your website, I hear you say? Everyone prefers to deal with people and websites that they know and trust. In fact most people won't even contact you, until they have visited your website 6 to 8 times. In other words until they trust you, at least a little bit. There are exceptions to this, but this rule holds true for at least 90% of the time. How do you solve this problem I hear you ask. You create a website that is addictive. A website that people want to come back to, again and again. One example is to give people information that they are looking for. This is how most people use the Internet. That doesn't mean you should stop doing everything but create content for your website. There are quite a few website that publish articles that you can post on your own website. Best of all they won't cost you a cent. However there is a catch. You must publish the original author's details with the article (name, website etc).
Adding articles to your website has another advantage. With more words to read, Google will see your website as more important, and you will have more keywords you can be found for. All this translates into more traffic. More traffic means a better chance of converting someone into a paying customer.
